Migraines & Headaches

This article explains not only what factors could cause headaches and migraines but also reveals that there could be indicators of underlying causes. When these underlying causes are treated holistically and with an anti-inflammatory protocol, migraine symptoms are reduced significantly and very often banished.  Of course, migraines are complex and should always be checked out by a medical consultant.  What are the symptoms of migraines headaches? How do migraines affect lives? What different factors cause migraine headaches? What is the main cause of migraine headaches? How do you stop migraines? Why is Eat Burn Sleep recommended for migraines? How long will it take to get relief from migraines on the Eat Burn Sleep Program?

What are the symptoms of migraine headaches?

Migraine symptoms are usually intense headaches that range from moderate to severe throbbing, that can affect your neck and face. Ocular migraines, auras, nausea, vomiting, fever, diarrhea, sensitivity to noises and lights can all appear alongside the headaches. Recovery ranges from hours to days.

How do migraines affect lives?

If you suffer from migraines, we have no doubt that during an attack, you feel debilitated as the crushing, pounding sensations stop you functioning. Lying down in a dark room is often the only answer, while you wait for it to subside. This could be for hours or days. You may also experience other symptoms accompanying the pain that pulses in your head with every heart beat.  As you know, suffering from migraines can easily take over your life. You don’t always know when an attack will occur. If you are in the middle of something, for instance, it would be impossible to carry on but there isn’t always an option to stop, is there? Pushing through the pain in certain situations can be a regular occurrence and can leave you feeling like you are not living your best life. Not everyone has a so-called typical migraine because we are all unique but suffering from migraines can spoil your work, school, social life, relationships and your general enjoyment of life. We strongly recommend that you get yours checked out as soon as you can because treatment exists. You shouldn’t suffer alone.

What different factors trigger migraine headaches?

Migraine headaches are influenced by many different factors, including:
  • Genetics
  • Hormonal changes
  • Food intolerances (additives, MSG, histamine intolerance)
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Tyramine-rich foods
  • Caffeine consumption
  • Sugar consumption
  • Poor gut health
  • Poor sleep hygiene
  • Missing meals
  • Muscle tension
  • Eyestrain
  • Dehydration
  • Exhaustion
  • Weather changes
  • Environmental changes: noises, lights, smells and travelling
  • Jet lag
  • Sporadic exercise
  • Electrolyte imbalances
  • Systemic inflammation
  • Mineral deficiency
  • Mitochondrial deficiencies.

What is the main cause of migraine headaches?

There isn’t a real definition of cause for migraine but medical scientists believe that often, genetics are to blame. What happens is the result of certain brain activity that affects chemicals, nerve signals and excessive dilation of blood vessels in the head. Blood vessels expand in the head to offset a reduced blood supply. The sudden expansion of blood vessels irritates the surrounding nerves and can cause the throbbing pain and migraine.
  • Many studies confirm the reduction in brain blood flow prior to a migraine attack, followed by increased blood flow for more than a 48-hour period.
  • Migraine sufferers show to have an increased platelets activity: platelets are small blood cells involved in the formation of clots, and in migraine sufferers, the clumping together can be increased.
  • Serotonin, a neurotransmitter produced mainly in the gut, has been shown to be low in migraine sufferers. Serotonin supports the chemical transfer of information from one cell to another and plays a role in relaxation. When serotonin levels are low, blood vessels can be constricted, eventually causing migraines.
  • Histamine and Mast Cells: migraine triggers have been shown to cause the secretion of meningeal mast cells directly or indirectly, and consequently cause inflammation and activation of the trigeminovascular system. Nerve cells in the blood vessels with migraines, release a compound, substance P (pain). Substance P triggers the release of histamine and other allergic compounds by Mast Cells, increasing inflammation in the neurons in the trigeminal nerve which innervates the cerebral blood vessels.
  • Chronic stress is an important factor because of the nerves being overly reactive in migraines.

How do you stop migraines?

If you suffer from migraines, there is a strong likelihood that you have tried a plethora of ways in order to curb your headache attacks. Navigating the amount of information about migraines can be overwhelming. Trying out so many medications, methods and therapies without long-term results can leave you feeling resigned to the fact that migraines will never go away. We have no doubt that this can be emotionally draining for you.  For instance, some of our members have stated that before they joined this anti-inflammatory lifestyle program, they became so frustrated because they thought that they had pinpointed the culprits, like certain foods or situations, only to find that they were not foolproof. Being on a continuous loop of trying to identify triggers left them feeling helpless and low in spirit.  The truth in many cases, which they have subsequently discovered now, is that often there are underlying triggers already present in the body. It is when those underlying triggers and causes are treated and paid attention to that the healing begins. When treating migraine holistically – with a combination of allopathic guidance, naturopathic nutrition and a lifestyle and dietary protocol, most people have claimed that it has given them back their lives. Eat Burn Sleep has supported many sufferers of acute, episodic and chronic migraines in reducing the intensity of migraine headaches as well as their occurrence. Our science-backed lifestyle program was devised carefully after a decade of research and it utilises a unique combination of techniques that you control. For migraine sufferers, the anti-inflammatory dietary and lifestyle changes encourage healthy detoxification, the balancing of electrolytes, reduction of inflammation in the brain and body and the production of neurotransmitters. These all aid with the relief of headache pain.  Under the Eat Burn Sleep program, we always encourage you to really tune into your bodies to identify changes and to monitor progress.

How long will it take to get relief from migraines on the Eat Burn Sleep Program?

How long it will take to get results for headache relief on this program is down to you as an individual and your personal make-up.  What should also be noted is that this is not a one time fix but one that if practised and adhered to as much as possible going forward will bring great healing results in time – naturally, and for the long term. Taking into consideration that we aim for damage limitation and not perfection.  We know how important it is for you to get help with managing your migraines and we want to help you as soon as possible.
